Basmati rice, known for its long grains and aromatic qualities, is often prepared using the double steaming method to achieve optimal texture and flavor. This technique involves rinsing the rice thoroughly to remove excess starch, then soaking it for a period of time (usually 30 minutes to a few hours) to allow the grains to absorb moisture evenly. After soaking, the rice is steamed twice: first on medium heat until it is almost cooked, then on very low heat to finish cooking gently and evenly without becoming mushy.

Double steaming basmati rice helps ensure that each grain remains separate, fluffy, and aromatic, making it ideal for dishes where distinct grains are desired, such as biryanis, pilao's, or as a side dish to complement various cuisines.
